Softwares & Basic Tools Needed To Start A Podcast At Home

A podcast as defined by Wikipedia is an episodic series of spoken word digital audio files that a user can download to a personal device for easy listening. Streaming applications and podcasting services provide a convenient, integrated way to manage a personal consumption queue across many podcast sources and playback devices.

Tools needed to start a podcast from the comfort of your bedrooms are listed below.

First of all  , what is your Podcast’s Parameters?

1. What’s it going to be about?
2. How long will it run for?
3. Is it a live radio show or a pre-record/podcast?

How will you record it?
Is your computer able to record the show decently?
With a  a Quad-Core PC with 8GB of RAM and an external 2TB hard drive to store the show on, that’s MORE than enough so anything relative modern will cream this and even something 10 years old will do well (just make sure you have enough memory and drive space).

Software:
If you’re going live then you can download VIRTUAL DJ SOFTWARE – Download VirtualDJ and use that.

If you’re doing a pre-record/podcast then download Audacity from https://www.audacityteam.org/dow… and that’s free and easy to use as well.

Hardware:
For a beginner setup, we recommend the Behringer Podcast Studio starter kit
(|PODCASTUDIO USB|Behringer|P0664) it comes with 1 mic, some headphones and a USB desk that’s also simple to set up and use.

You can always upgrade if and when you feel more confident/have more cash.

Where will you showcase it?
So you’ve set out your stall, picked a topic, scripted it and practised it enough that it’s flawless… what do you do now?
Well, you find somewhere to showcase your wares.

If you’re a podcaster , we recommend Mixcloud – This is Audio Culture – easy and free to use. Just create an account, upload your show up (once it’s done) and promote it. There are options on the platform where a user can pay to boost plays and traction.

Now, If you want to do a live show, find a station that has similar shows to yours – or, one that isn’t but doesn’t mind having you on board – send them an email detailing what you do you, how long you’ve been doing it and why you want to be part of their set up.

If they pick you, congratulations, you should get told how to connect to their server when you’re due to go on.
