How to prevent or allow iPhone App Tracking

With the iOS 14.5 now available to everyone, iPhone users opt to enable or disable app tracking on their phones. The new iOS comes with an App Tracking Transparency feature, which now apps have to request permission before they can track you.

This gives you total control to allow or block iPhone app tracking to keep your online life more private.

In this article we will walk you through how to use the new App Tracking Transparency feature to control which apps are able to track you.

How to allow/block iPhone app tracking

Note that when you download and open a new app, you’ll get a notification that asks if you want to let the app track your activity across other companies’ apps and websites. You’ll also see information about what the app would track. You can tap either Ask App not to Track or Allow.

Now to allow or disable the App tracking feature on already downloaded apps on your phone, follow the process below;

  1. Go to Settings on your iPhone
  2. Scroll down and tap Privacy
  3. Choose Tracking at the top
  4. The default setting is to allow apps to ask for permission to track you
  5. Toggle it off to block all apps from being able to track you – and even ask to track
  6. Choose “Ask Apps to Stop Tracking” or “Allow Apps to Continue Tracking” for any you’ve already approved
  7. If/when you do give permission for an app to track you, you’ll see a list of them under the Privacy > Tracking settings
  8. You can block tracking at any time for individual apps by tapping the toggle next to it

Note that the App Tracking Transparency feature is only available on phones with iOS 14.5 software.
